Assessment

Fueling Mowers

NVQ's in Horticulture, including Sports Turf, Landscape and Cemeteries, are available through 'on the job' assessments. Onsite UK is an accredited assessment centre for City and Guilds and NPTC qualifications. Funding for NVQ's may be available through the 'Train to Gain' scheme.

The Foundation (NVQ1), Craftsman (NVQ2), Supervisory (NVQ3) and Manager (NVQ4) can be completed at work, with minimal disruption to normal routines.

Any additional training required will be completed in the workplace and delivered at a time to suit the employer and candidates.

How does the assessment work?

Hedge Trimming

Horticulture NVQ's are made up of units, (some mandatory and the rest selected from a number of optional units to match the work being done) all of which relate directly to the job.The NVQ assessor observes the candidate carrying out the tasks listed in the units and when appropriate, verifies that the work is being done to industry standards. As supporting evidence, photographs may also be taken.

The NVQ assessor will also ask candidates some questions about why they carry out their work in the way that they do. The assessor will put all of these together into a folder or portfolio, which will be passed to the candidate on completion of the assessment.

This style of assessment is particularly useful where candidates have literacy/language difficulties or cannot be released for operational or financial reasons.

Training can also be provided, and assessment arranged, for individual proficiency tests to be taken including:

NPTC Certificates of Competence
